Welcome to the new DFAS Retired and Annuitant Pay! On February 1, DFAS completed a very exciting transition; they brought Retired and Annuitant Pay back in house after outsourcing the function to a contractor for nearly eight years. Their goal was to make this transition seamless for you and to continue providing excellent customer service and timely, accurate pay.

New Post Officers Elected and Installed

Emily Kennedy Going to Girls State

Emily Kennedy, daughter of Steven L. and Kelly Kennedy, of Red Oak is Post 111's selection to go to Girls State this year. Emily attends classes with the Dallas Christian Home Educators at Faith Bible Church in DeSoto. She is an excellent student and serves as an editor for the school newspaper. Emily enjoys soccer, as both a player and referee. She is very active in youth group activities at First Baptist Church of Red Oak, where she also helps operate the church's coffee shop. She has two older brothers who have both attended and greatly benefitted from Boys State. Following graduation from high school, Emily will study culinary arts at the Le Cordon Bleu Institute in Dallas with an ultimate goal of owning her own restaurant. Congratulations Emily!


Jacob Packer Going to Boys State

Jacob Packer, son of David E. and Rebecca Packer, of Glenn Heights is Post 111's selection to go to Boys State this year. Jacob attends Red Oak High School where he is the Operations Officer for the NJROTC unit that placed #1 of 240 in the NJROTC Brain Bowl competition. He is in the National Honor Society, plans to attend the U S Naval Academy, major in Engineering, and follow a career as a Marine Corps Officer. He has a 3.75 gpa (on a 4.0 scale). Congratulations Jacob!


AFJROTC Cadets Honored

Several Cadets of the Texas 957th AFJROTC Group were honored by American Legion Post 111 on May 1, 2010. The awards were presented by Commander Gary Smith at the Cedar Hill High School Performing Art Center. Receiving medals and certificates for Military Excellence were: Cadet Senior Airman Luciah Velez (Freshman), Cadet Captain Christian Beasley (Sophmore), Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Carmen Ponder (Junior), and Cadet Colonel Calvin Thomas (Senior). Receiving a medal and certificate for Scholastic Excellence was Cadet Captain John Eigel (Sophmore). Please join me in congratulating these outstanding Cadets and their parents.


Monthly General Membership Meeting Information

General membership meetings for Post 111 are held monthly (except January) on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Post and members and guests should use the rear entrance to the building. Ample parking is available.


John Eigel Wins 5th District Oratorical Contest

Post 111 congratulates John Eigel for winning the 5th District Oratorical contest. John is a sophmore at Cedar Hill High School and the son of Michael and Cynthia Eigel of Cedar Hill, TX.


New Paid-Up-For-Life (PUFL) Rates Announced

New PUFL rates and extended payment plan have been announced and can be viewed in the attached flyer.


Post Needs Gravel Donation/Help

Post 111 is in need of a load of driveway gravel to repair the ruts and potholes. Anyone that can donate a load of gravel or knows someone willing to donate a load, please contact the Post Adjutant, Gary Smith.


The American Legion License Plates Now Available!!!

The plates are available for all Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members in the Department of Texas. See the attached sheet for more information.


Be Active in Your Post

All members are invited to be more active in Post management and activities. The more participation, the greater fun for all! Volunteering an hour or two a month is all it takes to make a difference.

Challenge coins made of anodized bronze are now available for purchase and sale by members as a fund raiser. Please sign up to help raise funds for our Post.
